Service Hours

Commissioner for Oaths service is generally (but not guaranteed to be) available at the Town Office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Please call ahead to ensure that the Commissioner for Oaths is going to be available when you are able to come in. Appointments are available and highly recommended.  

  • The Commissioner will not provide legal advice or documentation.  
  • Complete your paperwork, but DO NOT sign (or witness) your documents prior to your appointment, they need to be signed in front of the Commissioner.
  • Please bring a piece of recognized photo ID with you.
  • If you require a Witness for your documentation, bring your own witness with you.  If a translator is required, please notify the Commissioner, but you will be required to provide your own translator.
  • The Commissioner WILL NOT commission:
    •  consent letters for minors travelling out of Alberta, 
    • most passport documents; 
    • any documents that involve the release or waiver of rights, such as Release of Dower Rights; or
    • any document requiring legal advice or certification.

The Commissioner for Oaths may/will refuse to administer the oath if they are unsure of the documentation provided, determine that the documentation is incomplete or incorrect, or are in any way uncomfortable with administering the oath as presented.

A Commissioner for Oaths IS NOT:

  • a Notary Public.  Please verify the type of signature you require.  The Town of Diamond Valley does not offer Notary Public services.  Contact your lawyer or search the internet for an authorized Notary Public.
  • a Marriage Commissioner.  The Government of Alberta maintains a searchable list of Marriage Commissioners
