Council Meetings
Council Meetings
Council Meetings are held in the Council Chambers, located at 514 Windsor Avenue (Turner Valley). Visit the Diamond Valley Meeting Portal to find meeting agendas and minutes.
Council sets its meeting schedule annually, each fall, at its Organizational Meeting. Scheduled meetings appear in the Council Meeting Calendar.
Council meetings may be cancelled by resolution of Council. Special Meetings of Council are scheduled as needed. If time permits, public notification and an agenda package will be available on the Town’s website.
Members of the Public are Welcome
All Council meetings are open to the public, except for scheduled Closed Session discussions. You are welcome to attend Council Meetings in person or online using the meeting link published in each agenda package.
Communicating with Council
Residents have two main opportunities to speak before Council:
1. Request to Present as a Delegation
Community and business organizations can make a formal request to Council as a Delegation. Presentations should be concise, ideally lasting 15 minutes or less. To be included as a Delegation on the Council Agenda you must submit the Delegation Request Form and any accompanying materials to the Legislative Services department at least seven days in advance. If you have accompanying materials, please ensure you provide them in one of the formats listed on the Delegation Request Form. A large screen is available in Council Chambers for displaying your materials.
2. Ask a Question During Question Period
Residents may ask questions during the Question Period at a Regular Council Meeting. Questions should be specific, presented in five minutes or less, and must be in question form. To ask your question, please do one of the following no later than 12 noon on the day of the meeting:
- Submit your completed Question Period Registration Form in person or by email to legislativeservices@diamondvalley.town; OR
- register with Legislative Services to ask your question via the online meeting.
Request a Letter of Support
If you or an organization you represent require a Letter of Support for your grant application, proposal or project, you may be eligible to receive one from Council. Council-030 Letters of Support Policy outlines the application and submission process. The Town has provided both an Online Application form and a printable PDF form to suit everyone's needs.
Pecuniary Interest
Alberta Municipal Affairs publishes a very handy brochure, "Pecuniary and Conflict of Interest for Municipal Councillors (PDF)" The guide is filled with information about what determines when a Councillor must declare a pecuniary interest and excuse themselves from discussion/voting - and the rules outlining the obligations of a Councillor to vote on any matter before Council.
