Noise Exemption Permits

What is a Noise Exemption Permit?

A Noise Exemption Permit is a temporary permit that allows for exceptions to the Property Responsibility Bylaw regarding noise between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. (Monday to Friday), and 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. (Saturdays, Sundays, and statutory holidays).

When should I get a permit?

Any individual or organization intending to hold an activity or event should apply for a Noise Exemption Permit if it is expected to exceed allowable sound levels or take place outside approved timeframes. This includes activities such as:

  • Movie production and outdoor filming

  • Construction or landscaping tasks

  • Concrete finishing

  • Large-scale public events or music festivals

How far in advance do I need to apply?

Applications must be submitted at least 7 days and no more than 30 days prior to the planned activity or event. Failure to meet this deadline may result in the Town being unable to approve the permit in time.

What is the cost of a permit?

(As per the Rates and Fees Bylaw)

  • Construction Noise Exemption Permit – $500.00 per day

  • Special Event Noise Exemption Permit – $250.00 per day
