Winter reminder!
With the recent snowfall, please refrain from shoveling snow from sidewalks and driveways onto the roadways.
- Shovel snow in toward your property, this helps keep roads safe and aids with clearing and stormwater flow.
- Keep fire hydrants clear: ensuring snow is not piled around the hydrant aids emergency services access
- Avoid blocking curbs: leave space for your garbage, recycling, and compost carts to assist in easier collection
- Avoid blocking storm drains: don’t pack snow into storm drains by parking on them or shoveling snow onto them. Blocked drains create pooling and potential flooding.
According to section 5 of the Property Responsibilities Bylaw, residents may face penalties of up to $250 for depositing snow or ice onto roadways or public lands, including failing to remove snow from sidewalks adjacent to their property within 48 hours, or neglecting to apply non-slip material onto ice-covered walkways.
